The variety is not included in the state register of selection achievements approved for use. Nevertheless, "Pride of Russia" is popular among summer residents because of its large berries and abundant fruiting.
Raspberry "Pride of Russia" is among large-fruited. The variety is precocious, self-pollinated. Ripening period is medium early. High frost resistance and the ability to tolerate prolonged droughts are noted. "Pride of Russia" is not susceptible to some fungal diseases.
Bushes of this variety are compact with a strong root system. The branches are strong and straight, the stems are thick. The bush grows to 1.5 m. Rare individual specimens reach 2 m. In the aggregate, such structural features of the bush make it possible to ripen large fruits in large quantities. On average, about two dozen berries grow on one branch of the variety. During the season, with proper care, one bush is able to bring more than 4 kg of berries. Fruiting occurs a year after planting a bush in a new place.
Leaves of the Pride of Russia variety are mottled, saturated green. On the top of the branches, the shade of the foliage is slightly lighter.
Flowers and berries
Raspberry berries “Pride of Russia” are oblong with tender flesh. They are large (about 10 grams), pale red. The taste is delicate, but slightly sour. The aroma is bright and intense.
INTERESTING FEATURE. Ripe fruits of this variety do not fall from the bushes, but do not choke when they are removed from the branches.
This raspberry variety is early ripening with high yield. Fruiting ends in August. One bush of the variety gives from 4 kg of berries. With proper care and good weather conditions, productivity increases to 6 kg. During the summer, up to 6 crops can be harvested from one bush.
It is grown everywhere: in the south of Russia, in the central regions of the country, Siberia and the Urals.
Despite the fact that when harvesting the berries of the variety do not crumple and do not flow, they are stored for a very short time. Also, this raspberry is practically not suitable for transportation over long distances.

Due to its advantages, this raspberry is popular among summer residents and is often found in personal subsidiary plots. The advantages of the variety include:
- Resistance to fungal diseases.
- The absence of thorns on the branches, which facilitates harvesting.
- Resistance to low temperatures, and also to drought and dry winds.
- Large fruits that are well picked from branches and do not crumple.
- Fruiting throughout the season.
Despite its advantages, the Pride of Russia raspberry variety has several disadvantages.
- Picky in care.
- It does not tolerate transportation.
- Short shelf life of berries.
- Loss of taste in bad weather conditions.
- The need for regular complex nutrition.
Planting and reproduction
Raspberry Pride of Russia is recommended to be planted in mid-April or early October. The optimum temperature for planting seedlings is 15 degrees. In the fall, you need to land in such a way that about a month passes before the start of frost. Then the bushes will take root in a new place and will easily survive the winter.
IMPORTANT! "Pride of Russia" - a variety resistant to frost. Experts say that shrubs can tolerate 30-degree frost. But raspberries become vulnerable during thaws when their roots are exposed. To preserve the plant, it must be well mulled in the fall.
For planting raspberries, you need to choose a lighted place away from other plantings. This is done so that raspberries do not conflict with other cultures and have enough space for growth.
It is allowed to plant shrubs along the fences and walls on the south side. Thus, the plant will be protected from the wind. In addition, barriers will trap snow, which in winter will become an additional shelter for the root system, and in the spring - a source of moisture.
The area under the raspberry should be dug up and cleaned of weeds, stones and other excess elements. This is done in advance, at least 2-3 weeks before the expected planting date.
IMPORTANT! The Pride of Russia variety cannot be planted in a lowland, as the bush will die from drafts and excessive aridity.
The soil in the selected area should be loamy or sandy loam. But also chernozem will fit under the raspberry. It is not worth planning to land on heavy clay soil. In this case, the raspberry roots will rot due to waterlogged soil.
There are 3 main ways to plant raspberries:
- Pitted. The essence of this method is to dig a separate hole for each seedling. This method is ideal for planting shrubs at different ends of the site.
- Tape. With this method, one deep trench delves into which all the seedlings are stacked. This method is preferred when raspberries are planted in a line along the fence, wall, or when a raspberry is formed from a raspberry.
- In-line. This method is preferred if you want to create a separate large raspberry from different varieties. Its essence lies in the excavation of 2 or more parallel trenches.
Whichever method of planting you choose, you must follow the agricultural technology of the process.
- The depth of the pit should be at least 40 cm.
- The distance between the seedlings should be at least half a meter.
- The distance between the rows of one grade is not less than 1 m, the rows of different varieties - not less than 3-4 m.
A 10 cm layer of organic fertilizer is laid at the bottom of the pit. From above it is sprinkled with the same layer of fertile soil. After this, the seedling is placed in a pit (trench) and filled with soil.
IMPORTANT! Do not forget to straighten the roots of each shrub. Then raspberries will quickly settle in a new place and grow.
Then watering is carried out at the rate of 3 l / 1 bush. The last step is mulching. As a material, sawdust, humus, dry grass are used.
Propagation of raspberries "Pride of Russia" is advised to carry cuttings or shoots. These are the two most effective ways. It is not very convenient to propagate by layering this variety, since its branches are quite strong and not too high.
If you are propagating a plant with cuttings, then make sure that the material of your choice is suitable for this. The most healthy root shoots about 20 cm long are chosen. If you cut them in the fall, then store them until spring in wet sand in a cool place.
When planting, cuttings do not root too deeply, by 8-10 cm. It is very important to fertilize seedlings well when planting. Use humus for this.
Newly planted cuttings must be weeded regularly, as well as to loosen the ground. So you save planting from weeds and excessive soil moisture.
The second popular method of propagation of the Pride of Russia variety is propagation by shoots. Lateral branches are dug in the spring and planted using the same technology as ordinary seedlings. The only difference is in the depths of the pit. It should not be very deep, about 10 cm.
After planting, the seedling is covered with a film. In such an impromptu greenhouse, the planted shoot should stay until foliage appears.
IMPORTANT! Raspberries should not be planted next to wild strawberries, parsley, grapes, radishes and sea buckthorn. It is also worth refraining from planting where potatoes, tomatoes and eggplants grew.
"Pride of Russia" is a bit more capricious than other varieties. In particular, it requires more frequent top dressing with organic and mineral fertilizers. Also for the winter, it is necessary to bend the branches of the bush to the ground. The rest of the care for this variety is no different from others.
The frequency and abundance of raspberry irrigation depends on the place of planting. If the bush grows on a small hill, then it should be watered more often.
The main rule of raspberry watering is to prevent waterlogging of the soil. Because of this, the root system of the shrub begins to rot. Therefore, after heavy rains, it is advised that unplanned loosening the land under plantings.
On dry days, it is allowed to pour 1.5 to 2 buckets of water twice a week under one plant.
If your raspberry is located on heavy soil, then watering should be reduced and at least 2 times a decade to loosen the soil.
When transplanting raspberries, it is important not to damage the roots of the plant. Such wounds can cause infection and death of the bush. If, digging up a bush, you accidentally break off or cut the roots, you need to treat them with a weak solution of potassium permanganate and sprinkle with charcoal or activated charcoal.
IMPORTANT! Until the raspberries are transplanted to a new place, the dug plant should be in the shade. In this case, it is better to wrap the roots with a wet cloth. So you will protect them from drying out.
For transplantation, dig a new hole in depth in accordance with the length of the roots of the transplanted shrub. This is a very important point, as the roots of raspberries must be straightened.
10 kg of organic fertilizer mixed with superphosphate and potassium sulfate are placed in a pit. Then the plant itself is placed in the pit and covered with soil. The soil is compacted, watered abundantly and mulched.
TIP! Bind the transplanted plant to the support.
Fertilizer and fertilizing
The Pride of Russia variety is demanding on top dressing, but thanks to them, the taste of berries improves significantly.
Raspberries need to be fed at least 3 times per season.
- May. 0.5 liters of mullein are mixed with a bucket of water and watered with this solution of 2 square meters. m
- July. 0.5 liters of bird droppings and 2 tablespoons of urea are mixed with 10 liters of water. A solution is watered 1 bush.
- September. 20 g of potassium salt, 15 g of ammonium nitrate, 30 g of superphosphate are mixed with 10 l of water.
Additional dressings are carried out as necessary and consist of 10-15 g of phosphorus and potassium.
Diseases and Pests
Raspberry Pride of Russia is resistant to fungus, mosaic and rot. This is a genetic feature of the variety. The variety only occasionally becomes a victim of aphids. However, the plant should not be exposed to unreasonable risk.
Therefore, it is necessary in any case to carry out preventive treatment with fungicides and insecticides. In addition, you must follow the rules for caring for the plant:
- regularly feed bushes;
- prevent weeds from overgrowing;
- regularly loosen the soil;
- for the winter bend branches to the ground.
Following these simple rules, you will get a high yield with healthy strong raspberries.
