Taking into account all the parameters, the Batyany cultivar is recommended both for amateur planting and for personal cultivation. In the northern strip of Russia it is cultivated in greenhouses, and in the southern regions it is possible to get a good crop on open ground.
Characteristics and description of the variety
Now the Batyany variety takes a leading position among gardeners. Let us consider in more detail the features of tomatoes of this type.
The bushes are indeterminate, strong enough. Branches well and bring powerful growth with long stems. Because of this, garter and stepchildren are required. Large leaves, dark olive color.
Flowers and fruits
Variety Batya is characterized by simple inflorescences. On one bush there are usually about 10 flowers. Of this amount, an average of 6 fruits are tied.
The variety acquired its name due to strong and heavy fruits. They are round, slightly heart-shaped, without bumps on the surface. There is an articulation on the stalk.
The color of the tomato is raspberry or pinkish, the pulp is sugar, fleshy, with seed chambers of small size. A distinctive feature of the Batyany tomato variety is its solid size. The average weight of the fruit is 300 grams, but some vegetables reach up to 700 grams.
Important!From the reviews of gardeners, it follows that, unlike many varieties, with proper top dressing, the mass and size of the fruit of the Batyana variety does not decrease over time. In addition, powerful tomatoes appear on the upper levels of the bushes.
The pulp of tomato Batyana is enclosed in a dense skin, which prevents cracking in any conditions. This increases the shelf life of vegetables and simplifies transportation. Such properties are quite rare among tomatoes of raspberry and pink color.
The taste of the natives of the "Siberian Garden" according to experts-tasters at "4". From gardeners, opinions on this issue are mixed. Someone admires the sweetness of tomato, while others disapprove of the fresh taste.
The main purpose of the fruit variety Batya salad, but it is also possible to use for:
- fresh use;
- cooking tomato pastes and ketchups;
- winter blanks;
- creating various dishes;
- making juices.
Yields on average 12 kg per square meter and up to 5 kg per bush. To achieve the best indicators, it is necessary to stop the growth of the Batiani bush in time (by pinching the top point).
This must be done at a time when the fruits had time to ripen, and the plant managed to fulfill the highest productivity that the breeders had predicted.
The first fruits of the Batyania variety begin to form 90 days after the appearance of more seedlings. If the weather conditions worsen, the moment of growth may begin in 100 days.
The fruiting period is quite long, which is an excellent moment for the farm plot. This indicator makes it possible to gradually collect ripe fruits, even with a small number of bushes.
The transportability of Batyany tomatoes is excellent due to the dense skin. Given this indicator, tomatoes of this type are grown for sale.
The main advantages of the variety
- high rates of transportability;
- resistance to frost and drought;
- the possibility of breeding at home using seeds;
- high yields;
- slight leafy;
- resistance to late blight;
- early ripening.
- low germination of seeds;
- the appearance of numerous stepsons (it is necessary to trim regularly);
- high sensitivity to moisture (fruits rot);
- due to heavy fruits, the shoots often break (it is possible to avoid when tying each brush individually).
Planting and reproduction
The breeding method of the Batyania variety does not differ from other types of tomatoes - this is sowing for seedlings. Given that non-hybrid fruits, it is possible to collect seeds on their own.
To do this, you need to choose the largest tomato from the first ovaries, somehow notice it and wait for the complete ripening on the bush. After that, the vegetable should be picked, crushed pulp, rinse on a sieve and dry thoroughly. A higher percentage of germination can be expected from seed material 2-3 years old.
Attention!When buying seeds, read the information on the bag. Some companies label “DO NOT CORRECT” on the packaging. Such marking says that the producer independently disinfected the seeds. In the absence of an inscription, the buyer must use a solution of manganese for processing.
Like the bulk of tomatoes with early harvest indicators, it is necessary to start growing this variety with seedlings.
Any seeds collected independently or purchased in a specialized store, it is recommended to check for germination.
The rules for manipulation are very simple. In a glass of warm water, stir a whole teaspoon with salt. After that, the seeds of tomato Batyan are placed in this liquid. All future seedlings will settle to the bottom within 5 minutes. Seeds that have surfaced should be disposed of.
When planting, they will only take a place in the tank without sprouting. After the procedure, the sunken seeds should be washed thoroughly under water to remove residual salt. Then the grains are dried for subsequent storage, or planted in trays with soil.
To improve the quality of seedlings, it is necessary to pay attention to soil preparation. You can use the prepared soil for seeds, or create it yourself.
For the latter option you will need sheet land, peat, humus and sand. All of these ingredients should be prepared in equal amounts and mixed.
During mixing, to the resulting mass, it is necessary to add potassium sulfate and superphosphate of 30 g. For soil disinfection, it must be prepared 30 days before the sowing date and left in a cool place. Immediately before planting, the soil should be warmed.
Sowing should begin about 60 days before the planned planting in the beds in a greenhouse or open ground. For rooms with heating, it is recommended to start harvesting seedlings from mid-February to March 1, and for the street - from the beginning to mid-April.
Seeds are placed to a depth of not more than 1 cm, moistened from a spray bottle and covered with a film or glass until shoots. Seeds germinate in a warm place without light. The first seedlings begin to be scheduled for 4-7 days after sowing. After the emergence of seedlings, seedlings should immediately be installed in a bright place.
To give strength to the root system, it is recommended to reduce the temperature of the impact on the container with tomatoes, and at night it is advisable to lower it by 5-8 degrees. After the first leaves are formed on the seedlings, it must be peeled (planted) so that the seedlings are not oppressed.
Care for seedlings is necessary both during its stay in the trays, and after planting in a permanent place.
For transplantation, it is recommended to choose the site of soil on which perennial grasses, legumes, carrots, cabbage or onions previously grew.
The land on which potatoes were planted previously will become an extremely unfavorable place for tomato growth. The following are the main points of caring for Batyany tomatoes.
Before transferring seedlings of Batyan to the street it is recommended to temper them. To do this, over the course of 2 weeks, the temperature of the room in which the container with tomatoes is located is gradually reduced. Adult seedlings suitable for changing the soil have a strong shoot and developed leaves. Despite the fact that the variety is resistant to cold, the planting begins after warming the soil to 16 degrees.
Important!The recommended seedling age at the time of planting should not be less than 50 days from the time of sowing.
Tomatoes are planted in a checkerboard pattern, forming several rows. Between the bushes should leave a distance of 50cm.
Recesses are formed at the selected places in which mineral fertilizer is placed before planting. It is not recommended to fill 1 square meter with more than three bushes.
This is explained by the tallness of the Batyania variety and the formation of many lateral shoots on the stem during growth. On the north side of the holes mount supports. Their role is usually played by stakes with a height of at least 2 m from the ground level.
The roots of seedlings are placed in a recess, covered with soil to the bottom sheets and squeezed strongly. The stalk of a tomato is not tightly tied to a peg. For the season you will need 3-4 garters.
Bushes of tomato Batyana must be watered in the morning under the root, trying to avoid getting drops on the leaves. Irrigation fluid is recommended to use a standing and room temperature.
The first 7 days from the moment of planting, seedlings are watered every day, with the expectation of 3 liters of liquid per bush. Subsequently, the frequency of irrigation is reduced to 1 time per week, but 10 liters are already spent on one plant. If necessary, tomatoes are watered more often.
Fertilizer and fertilizing
The first top dressing is carried out 10 days after the pick, and the second one a week before moving the tomatoes into the open ground.
You can use both a ready-made mixture of well-known manufacturers (for example, Effekton, Agricola, etc.), as well as hand-made from home remedies: hydrogen peroxide, wood ash and whey.
After harvesting the first crop of Batyana tomatoes, the plant also needs fertilizer. This time, it will be effective to use mullein mixed in 10 liters (1:10 with water): potassium permanganate (3 g), urea (20 g), superphosphate (30 g), copper sulfate (2 g) and potassium sulfate (10 g). Feeding is carried out immediately after watering. On one bush, it is recommended to spend 1.5 liters of the mixture.
Growing varieties in a greenhouse
The type of tomato Batyan was developed taking into account the regional characteristics of Siberia. Thanks to this, the variety is perfect for growing in a greenhouse and gives great yield indicators compared to open ground.
Diseases and Pests
Breeders describe the Batyana variety as very resistant to disease, and especially late blight.
From experience, it is worth saying that tomatoes of this species are early, due to which they do not catch the moment of infection with late blight.
The main activity of this disease begins in the wet and hot last months of summer.
For the prevention of late blight, it is recommended to treat the bushes with a 1% solution of Bordeaux fluid. Such irrigation can be carried out before tying on 4 brushes of fruits, later the use of poisons makes vegetables unsuitable for consumption.
During fruit ripening, tomatoes can be irrigated with garlic infusion (200 g of root vegetables are minced in a meat grinder and poured with 1 liter of warm water). Such a solution will not only protect tomatoes from fungal spores, but also scare away pests.
Timely disposal of yellowed leaves, as well as keeping dry stem trees in dry and clean conditions will help prevent diseases.
